Getting Started

To begin earning your credits simply click the "Courses" tab:

  1. Go to the COURSES button at the top of the homepage
  2. Choose the type of course(s) you want and click on it.
  3. Click on "ADD" to place the course in your shopping cart, or click on "VIEW" for more information about the book.
  4. Either add more courses by "Continue Shopping" or "Proceed to Checkout".
  5. Sign in as a new or returning customer. If new customer, complete information.
  6. Click "Next".
  7. Ignore "shipping charge" and click "Next".
  8. If order is correct, click "Save".
  9. If paying by credit card, follow the directions for processing credit card payment.
  10. Download course by clicking on "Order" in gray bar.
  11. Click "Download" at the top or bottom to obtain course.

Tips for Prompt Processing

  1. Make sure you send a completed and signed registration form with your coursework. Write clearly and legibly. Make sure dates match the quarter in which you are submitting courses.
  2. Put the CRN's and course numbers on the registration. You can find CRN's and course numbers on the website with each course.
  3. Send transcript forms and transcript payments directly to the university. Send coursework, payment, and registration forms directly to ArmchairEd.
  4. You can download a copy of your receipt for each course by going to 'courses' and 'account'. Log-in and then click on the order. Then click on 'printable version.
  5. Allow four weeks for the university to process your grades after the end of the quarter. If you have questions regarding their status, you can contact SPU directly at 206-281-2031. They will have no information on your grades if we have not yet sent them.
  6. ArmchairEd closes in August, please see course calendar for exact dates. We are able to meet September mid-quarter processing deadlines for teacher certification and salary increases. Courses may be ordered and submitted, and e-mails are answered intermittently during that time.

Notification

Once your coursework is received, please allow one to three weeks for scoring. Grades will be placed on your order and a receipt is available for download. You can check your coursework status by logging onto your account and clicking on the order number. Allow up to 4 weeks after the submission deadline to receive mailed grades. Transcripts must be ordered directly from the university.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How many tests can I take at the same time?
Seattle Pacific University has a 20-credit per quarter maximum.
Educational Leadership courses are dropped after two years. The "Courses" page will display any warnings to drop courses.
Q2. Do you offer courses for grade only?
All courses may be taken for letter grade or pass/fail.
Q3. What form of payment do you accept for classes through ArmchairEd.com?
Payment may be made by check or major credit card. Personal checks must be made out to ArmchairEd. There will be a $15 charge for credit card refunds if you wish to drop courses.
Checks made out to SPU will be returned.
Q4. What do I need to do about transcripts and grades?
To obtain information regarding transcript and grade policies for Seattle Pacific University, go to the pulldown on the homepage. Allow up to 4 weeks after the submission deadline to receive mailed grades. Transcripts must be ordered directly from the university.
Q5. What about credits?
The credits you receive through ArmchairEd come from Seattle Pacific University, an accredited university. Contact your state accreditation office for verification if you have concerns.
Q6. What are tests like?
Each test contains multiple choice questions and essay options. One-credit Educational Leadership courses include 10 multiple choice questions and a 1-page essay. Three-credit book courses include 30 multiple choice questions and one or more essays, with total length of about eight pages. Five-credit book courses include 50 multiple choice questions and two to three essays, with total length of about ten to 12 pages. Click here to view a sample test.
Q7. What if I don't pass the test the first time?
The goal of ArmchairEd is to make the process a learning experience you can use as an educator. If you score below the criterion and take the course pass/no pass, you will have an opportunity to correct your answers. If you take the course for grade through SPU, you will need to pass with a criterion of 70% or above. The grading rubric is included on each test.
Q8. Where can I get Educational Leadership and book publications?
Unfortunately, Educational Leadership and book publications cannot be shipped by ArmchairEd and will need to be obtained separately by the student. You may order Educational Leadership magazine by calling ASCD at 1-800-933-2723. Links to publishers can be found by selecting the course, clicking on 'View' and clicking where it says "Click here to buy this book".
